This fictitious zone was formed by a long chain of inspiration. It began in 1908 with the mysterious incident in Tunguska (Siberia), followed by the science fiction novel “Roadside Picnic” (Arkadi and Boris Strugatsky, 1971), and the film “Stalker” (the Strugatzkis/Tarkovsky, 1979) with its musical interpretation by Robert Rich & Lustmord (1995). All these occurrences inspired and led to the realization of the theme in a computer game series by GSC Game World (2007-2010) and its novels. The Zone has always been an intriguing theme and an inspiration to creators of art. |

With his Zone Picnic photo project, Siegfried Stegmueller, photographer and graphic designer, uniquely captures the dark and bleak atmosphere of this imaginary zone. One year of elaborate production work and serious engagement with the subject matter has preceded the future publication of this exceptional photography collection which will portray a fictitious reportage about survival in this post apocalyptic exclusion zone – now uniquely complementing previous thematic forms of expression through the medium of aesthetic photography. |
